This course uses the Hit Songs Deconstructed methodology to explore some of the most common and effective intro and outro techniques used in hit songwriting.

You’ll learn the most effective techniques for the creation of a great intro, from the backing music and hook-based technique to the more complex multipart technique, and dive into how these intro techniques can heighten a song’s engagement and memorability. With megahit case-studies from A-list artists including Ariana Grande, Lizzo, and Dua Lipa, we’ll explore how these techniques are implemented in today’s hits, and why they’re so effective.

You’ll also find out what types of outros are commonly used in hit songs, including ride out and wind down outros, and what makes these outros so memorable and effective. We’ll dive into case studies from some of the most successful songs in recent years, so you can see what techniques hit song creators use to keep listeners coming back for more.
